  • Having a job means a lot to me. I help out with Our Shout supported by Mencap where I live In Wolverhampton, I love it. Through my own experince of having a learning disabiltity, I love helping to make a difference to the lives of other people with disabilites.
I also enjoy writing so ever so often I have a look at the Mencap website to see if there's any news on issures that we can inprove.
I have written our employment, which members of Our Shout part in including myself. I hope it tells employers and people who work in employment serives how we want to work and how we need support to be equal to main stream people. Sara Jane Gorman 18 Jul 2008

Working is an investment in your future in loads of ways - pensions, houses, personality.Georgia 17 Jun 2008

  • A job gives me independence. It gives me the chance to choose to do what I want to do and when I want to do it - within reason of course, because I'm the one paying. People with a learning disability should get the same opportunity to make those decisions.Alfred 17 Jun 2008
  • A job is so important to who I am. One of the first questions people ask is 'what do you do'. Whenever I've been out of work, I've always found it really hard because people judge you accordingly. My job tells people a lot about me.Emma 17 Jun 2008
